Network planning
Structured cabling, VLANs, routing, and WLAN concepts for stable, scalable networks.
I plan, build, and manage networks, servers, and databases for small and medium businesses — from the firewall to the backup strategy. One point of contact, clear communication, clean documentation.
From initial planning to ongoing operations — these are the areas I cover, individually or as a complete package.
Structured cabling, VLANs, routing, and WLAN concepts for stable, scalable networks.
Setup and hardening of Active Directory environments, including group policies and permission management.
Backup concepts following the 3-2-1 principle, automated, monitored, and regularly tested for restorability.
Installation, tuning, and maintenance of Oracle databases, plus support during migrations.
Setup and operation of Microsoft SQL Server environments, including backup and recovery strategies.
Configuration, performance optimization, and hardening of PostgreSQL databases.
Planning and setup of virtualized environments for efficient, flexible use of your hardware.
Design and configuration of firewall rule sets to protect your network, inbound and outbound.
Two examples from real client work — anonymized, but with real starting points and real results.
A client in Bavaria was running several virtual machines on aging, increasingly slow server hardware. The network had grown organically over the years with no segmentation at all — every device on a single flat network.
Sourced and set up new, appropriately sized server hardware and migrated all VMs. In parallel, redesigned the network from scratch with proper VLAN segmentation and a matching firewall rule set.
Noticeably better VM performance, significantly reduced downtime risk, and a network where a security incident can no longer spread unchecked.
Another client ran 7 Raspberry Pis in continuous operation. Over time the systems had become cluttered — inconsistent software versions, no monitoring, no secure remote access.
Depending on condition, I either built images and rolled them out to new hardware, or fully reinstalled the devices. Added a VPN connection for secure remote access, ongoing monitoring, and automated patching across all devices.
A consistent, maintainable baseline across all 7 devices, secure remote access, and noticeably less manual maintenance thanks to automated updates.
As an IT service provider, I help small and medium businesses build IT infrastructure that's reliable, secure, and easy to maintain. My focus is on networks, database systems, and virtualization.
Before starting this business on the side, I spent several years working for mid-sized companies in critical infrastructure — and I'm still with one of them today. That experience feeds directly into every project — pragmatic, well documented, without unnecessary complexity.
It matters to me that you, as a client, always understand what's happening in your infrastructure. That's why every project comes with clear documentation and one fixed point of contact — me.
The things that come up most often before a first contact. Something missing? Just ask in the contact form.
Briefly describe what you need — I usually get back to you within one business day.
